LocationSt Lucia is a riverside suburb of Brisbane, capital city of the state of Queensland, Australia. Only 6km from the city by road, the suburb is bounded on three sides by the Brisbane River and adjoins the suburbs of Toowong, Taringa and Indooroopilly. It is also the site of the University of Queensland. Today it is a suburb of over 11 000 people. About half of the dwellings are detached houses; about half are flats or apartments. While there are many long term residents, the high number of students residing near the university makes St Lucia the "youngest" suburb of Brisbane. Bus and ferry services provide direct transport to the city centre and to the nearby major commercial centres of Toowong and Indooroopilly, where there are also railway stations and bus interchanges. Indooroopilly State High School, the Queensland Academy for Science, Maths and Technology at Toowong and several private secondary schools are easily accessible from St Lucia. A modern Brisbane City Council library is situated in the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, and various levels of access are available to the university libraries. Many of the university's other facilities, including theatres, galleries, museums, a swimming pool and sporting fields, are available to the public. Other recreational needs may be met by local athletic, football, sailing, rowing, golf and other sports clubs, the local public St Lucia Golf Links, or the increasing number of bikeways and river walks. A map of the Ironside State School catchment area is available for download. The map shows Ironside State School as well as nearby State Schools. The green lines indicate catchment areas, with the corresponding school located near the centre of each marked area. Ironside State School's catchment area encompasses St Lucia and some parts of Taringa and Indooroopilly.
