Saturday, 22 September
After a much-needed sleep in we were treated to a Japanese version of a Western breakfast at the hotel consisting of eggs, sausage, fruit, bread rolls, etc.
After checking out we made our way by bus to the National Ethnology museum to explore the Vaka Moana exhibit (South Pacific/Islander region). Then on to the Expo ‘70 Commemorative Park where we enjoyed lunch and some free time, which was spent on scenic train rides, paddle boats, giant slides and various free entertainments.
Finally we headed back to the museum to explore the huge array of other exhibits from around the world, including some interesting Australian pieces.
Back on to the bus and off to Sumiyoshi Primary School in Kobe to meet our host families. Feelings of excitement and nervousness were shared by all, but it didn’t take long for everyone to break the ice. We now have two free days to share with our families and won’t be back together as a group until Tuesday so look out for the next blog on Wednesday. Konnichiwa.
