Today, we were welcomed by the students of Sumiyoshi Elementary, who performed a number of songs in both English and Japanese as well as orchestral pieces. This was also the first time the Ironside students performed their songs and dance.
Each of our student performances were received very well and carried out with no difficulty. Study Tour adults were very impressed and we received many compliments from our hosts at Sumiyoshi Elementary.
Following our performances we were able to enjoy some free time around the campus and the students were able to join their Japanese peers in the playground. Some exciting games of basketball and tag ensued, although many of the students also made use of the extensive and impressive climbing equipment.
Our break ended all too soon, however, we were then able to enjoy a marvelous lunch prepared by the Sumiyoshi PTA. The students had the unique opportunity to experience a school lunch provided in the classrooms and served by the Japanese students.
Tomorrow we head off to Haga, approximately 100km north-west of Kobe and up in the mountains, stopping along the way to visit Himeji Castle Park before arriving at Nohara Elementary in the early afternoon.
Due to the two free days spent with our host families this past Sunday and Monday, I haven't had the opportunity to gather any significant number of photos from the students as yet and so I will be uploading photos at the earliest opportunity after our arrival in Haga.
