Language Other Than English - Japanese

Consistent with Education Queensland’s policy, Japanese as a key learning area is taught to students in years 5, 6 and 7.

The aim of Japanese language learning at Ironside State School is not to produce fluent second language speakers. While it is hoped that students will accurately retain grammar and vocabulary taught in class and become increasingly confident with one Japanese script, it is hoped that they will acquire a deeper understanding of Japanese culture, have opportunities to reflect on their own ways of doing and seeing and thus benefit from developing a world view that values all languages and cultures.

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.

If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart. (Nelson Mandela)
