We have four Prep classes this year, and we are looking forward to an exciting year of active learning, problem solving, communication, creativity, social activites and fun!

The children have been busy getting to know each other, their teachers, rules and classroom routines.  Following you will find important information regarding Term One.

 

This term our curriculum will focus on-
Overview of Learning in the Prep Environment -IronsideStateSchool,
 Term 1, 2008
Social & Personal Learning
 
·           takes on some familiar classroom roles and responsibilities;
·           seeks social contact with peers;
·           discusses others’ points of view and tries out ways to respond appropriately, to others’ ideas, needs and feelings;
·           shares and take turns with support;
·           listens to discussions about and shows interest in others’ ideas, needs and feelings.
Health & Physical Learnings
·       uses a particular grip and hand to manipulate objects;
·       experiments with actions and grips when using objects;
·       identifies safe/unsafe practices re. hygiene, health and safety;
·       shows positive behaviours re. health and safety issues;
·       copies physical gestures and movements;
·       moves with some confidence on familiar equipment;
·       moves spontaneously, exploring different movements.
Language Learning & Communication
  • uses language to join play/social situations;
  • discusses language to use to express needs and feeling at Prep;
  • uses simple sentences;
  • uses simple vocab;
  • uses criteria to sort and label items;
  • follows a simple instruction requiring one action;
  • uses texts for familiar and specific purpose;
  • makes up a story based on the images they see in a text;
  • role plays writing.
Early Mathematical
Understandings
  • counts small collections to five;
  • combines objects together to make a whole;
  • uses personal understandings of everyday measurement language during play and interactions;
  • copies patterns, identifying the repeating elements with support;
  • follows simple routines with support;
  • recites number names to five by rote.
 
 
Active Learning Processes
  • asks questions;
  • explores the indoor & outdoor environment;
  • observes and discusses relationships by-
comparing, exploring     cause & effect,                      
    exploring part whole     
     relationships;        
  • makes a simple plan & choices of materials
  • shares understandings about the natural world;
  • represents familiar places through drawings, model etc.;
  • experiments with creative play ideas;
  • joins in songs & games.
Please remember to return your child's Home Folder whenever it goes home.

  • Last day of Term 1 - Friday 4th April
