Reading and Viewing
·      Focus on historical fiction  
·      Reading will include literal, inferential and applied comprehension.
Writing
  • Focus: Historical Fiction
  • Daily writing tasks (eg Newspaper reports, recounts, narrative)
Speaking and Listening
·      Students will present interview questions on video
·      Listening to guest speakers.
 
Spelling
·      Learn and use words from lists of Integrated Unit words, core lists. 
·      Extension words for more able students.
·      Revision of high frequency word list for students having difficulty.
Handwriting
·      Revision of print script for mapping and diagrams.
·      Revision of entries, exits, joins, slopes and size of letters.
·      Revision of spacing between words.
·      Cursive script to be used for most writing.
English -Assessment
  • Standardised reading test
  • Reading comprehension test (fiction)
Students historical texts will be assessed according to the following criteria:
-          structuring of text
-          targeting their intended audience 
-          using specialised vocabulary
Students will orally present interview questions (video).
 
Weekly spelling (pre-test, test).
 
Ongoing, informal assessment of handwriting.

Primary Connections (It’s Electrifying – Energy and Change): Hands-on activities that explore the role of electrons in transferring energy in electric circuits.
Electricity inquiry:
Formulate investigation questions

Discuss materials that conduct electrical energy
Historical Australian events:
-          Macarthur’s wool
-          White Australia Policy
-          South Sea Islander labour trade (sugar cane industry)
-          Federation
-          Rum rebellion
Knowledge: Students will answer cause and effect questions of key pre-federation events.
Process: Historical background research for writing historical fiction using retrieval charts.  
Students will use media techniques to process information to enhance the quality of digital presentation.
Interview questions digitally recorded: Students will adopt role of historical figure or fictitious character and present pre-prepared responses.
