Year of Physical Activity |
|
This year has been dedicated as the Year of Physical Activity in Queensland – an initiative that will support the implementation of the Smart Moves: Physical Activity Programs in Queensland Schools. The program aims to increase the time in which primary students are effectively engaged in physical activity and improve the quality of that activity.
We have been most honoured in having been chosen by the Minister of Education, Training and The Arts, as the school in which this program was launched. On Wednesday 6th February, our Premier, The Hon. Anna Bligh and the Education Minister, The Hon. Rod Welford visited Ironside to publicly launch this important program in our Assembly Hall. Also in attendance at this event were the Year of Physical Activity Ambassadors:
Michael Bowers, CEO Brisbane Lions Claire McMeniman, Queensland Firebirds Nitro, The Shak Samantha Riley, Former Olympic Swimmer Rod Tiley, 4BC’s Mr T Annabelle Williams, Swimmer
Channel 9 program Extra then visited Ironside on 2 April. Host Jilliian Whiting spoke at length the Grade 5 students about the production of the program.

Extra then attended Ironside’s “Jump Rope for Heart” and interviewed The Hon. Rod Welford, Minister for Education, Training and The Arts and our School Captains. The story was aired on Friday 4 April and you may view the video on the link below.
