Band Music

Senior Concert Band

The Senior Concert Band is the largest and most advanced Concert Band at Ironside State School.  There are 62 students in this ensemble and they rehearse Wednesday mornings before school in the hall.  This ensemble performs challenging repertoire including both classical and contemporary styles to extend their performance skills and musicality.  In 2016, the Senior Band won Gold awards at both Fanfare and Music Fest.  The students enjoy playing at school and community events as well as in various local competitions.

Junior Band

The Junior Band is the Year 4 band ensemble for the first year musicians.  This is a rehearsal focus group that delivers the best possible foundation in ensemble musicianship, setting up students with the skills they need to continue their success as they progress into the Senior Band.  This group starts rehearsing in term 2 and performs 2-3 times per year.  The Junior Band currently rehearses on Tuesday morning from 7:30am, under the direction of Mr James Kukulies ( jkuku2@eq.edu.au).

Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is a new ensemble which started in Term two 2016.  This exciting group of musicians is made up of a rhythm section (piano, bass guitar, guitar and drums), a trumpet section, trombone section, and a saxophone section.  The Jazz
Ensemble is an extension ensemble that plays in a wide variety of styles including swing, rock and Latin.  In this ensemble, students learn how to improvise as this is the most important part of jazz music.  There are 22 students in this ensemble and they rehearse Thursday mornings before school in the Music Room.
