PE Program and Friday Sport

PE program

All classes receive a minimum of 30mins PE a week. In Term 1 & Term 4, all students from years 1 - 6 participate in swimming lessons and during Terms 2 & 3 ball games, sports and athletics are covered.
 
Friday Sport
-Friday Sport program is compulsory for all students in years 5 & 6.
 
-Two 10 week seasons occur, one in each semester with generally five weeks in each term.
 
-All sports are user pays, with a variety of sporting options and range of costs.
 
-Up to 12 different sports are offered each season. These include a combination of intra-school sports (non-competitive sports played at or close to school) and interschool sports (competitive teams who travel by non-seat belted buses to other schools/venues in the area to play fixtures)
·   Intra-school sports in past have included- dance, gymnastics, tennis, futsal, golf, fencing, jujitsu, bowling & table tennis.
·   Interschool Sports include- basketball, netball, flippaball, soccer, cricket, softball, touch football & AFL.
 
 
Sports Carnivals
All students enrolled at Ironside SS are allocated one of four sporting houses when enrolled.
 
Oxley
Flinders
Sturt
 Cook
 
Year 1-2 participate in an annual non-competitive Tabloid sports carnival and a swimming carnival.
 
Years 3-6 participate in an annual Cross Country, Swimming & Athletics carnival. During these carnivals, students compete for age champion as well as contributing points toward their house for the house trophy. Below is a general guide of venues and dates for the annual school carnivals.
·         Cross Country- held at Robertson Park, Taringa, in April-May.
·         Athletics- held at UQ, St Lucia, in June-July
·         Swimming- held at school, November-December
