Friday Sport and PE Program

HPE Program

All classes receive a minimum of 30mins PE a week. In Term 1 & Term 4, all students from years 1 - 6 participate in swimming lessons and during Terms 2 & 3 ball games, sports and athletics are covered.

Friday Sport

-Friday Sport program is compulsory for all students in years 5 & 6.
-Two 10 week seasons occur, one in each semester with generally five weeks in each term.
- Our Friday Activities programme will provide students with opportunities to participate in a range of sporting, and non-sporting activities.  
-Options available to students include;
     * competing in interschool competitions across a range of sports.
     * competing against other houses, in a range of games and sports, for the Inter-  House Cup.
     * participating in fencing or dance classes run by external providers  
     * participating in a robotics or short film making programme.
Interschool Sports include- basketball, netball, flippaball, soccer, cricket, softball, touch football & AFL.

Senior School (Years 3-6) Cross Country 2 April

Our annual school cross country will be held at Robertson Park again this year. Please go to 'Related Links' on the right hand side of this webpage to see a map and running schedule. Please be aware that the running times on the schedule are an approximation of how the morning is planned. Timing may be subject to change. Students should bring hats, a snack and adequate water.

Years 3-6 Athletics Carnival at UQ 2 May

With our scheduled Athletics Carnival for the senior school rapidly approaching, the competitive trials will shortly commence before school and at morning tea time. This enables the FINALS ONLY in FIELD events to be held at the athletics carnival on 2 May, ensuring a more streamlined program to be run on the day.

Sports Carnivals

All students enrolled at Ironside SS are allocated one of four sporting houses when enrolled.





Year 1-2 participate in a junior Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming carnivals as a stepping stone to the senior carnivals.  Events will include both authentic and modified events similar to those of the senior carnivals.
Years 3-6 participate in an annual Cross Country, Swimming & Athletics carnival. During these carnivals, students compete for age champion as well as contributing points toward their house for the house trophy. Below is a general guide of venues and dates for the annual school carnivals.
·         Cross Country- held at Robertson Park, Taringa, in April.
·         Athletics- held at UQ, St Lucia, in June.
·         Swimming- held at school, November-December.
