St Lucia is a riverside suburb of Brisbane, capital city of the state of Queensland, Australia. Only 6 kilometres from the city by road, the suburb is bounded on three sides by the Brisbane river and adjoins the suburbs of Toowong, Taringa and Indooroopilly. It is also the suburb of the University of Queensland.

Around 900 students currently attend Ironside State School, with many coming from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school's cultural portfolio constitutes of 49 different nationalities. Two full-time English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) teachers are employed to cater for the needs of these students.​
