St Lucia is a riverside suburb of Brisbane, capital city of the state of Queensland, Australia. Only 6 kilometres from the city by road, the suburb is bounded on three sides by the Brisbane river and adjoins the suburbs of Toowong, Taringa and Indooroopilly. It is also the suburb of the University of Queensland.
Around 950 students in 40 classes currently attend Ironside State School, with 110 prep students enrolled in five prep classes. Ironside State School is also very fortunate to have many students from non-English speaking backgrounds enrolled and the school employs two full-time English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) teachers to cater for the needs of these students.
Students in years 4 to 6 participate in the Australasian Tests with very successful results. Students in years 3 and 5 also participate in the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) each year.
