Welcome to Ironside State School.

On behalf of our school community, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your family.

I would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional and spiritual owners of our local lands, elders past, present and emerging; the Turrbal and Yagera People.

I am the proud principal of Ironside State School and what a privilege it us to lead this wonderful school.

The school vision states that Ironside State School is driven towards – 'Outstanding education. Inspiring our students to make a difference locally and worldwide'. All staff and students work together to make this vision a reality.

Our aim is to provide the finest, most well-rounded and holistic education possible for our students.

Since the school's opening, on the 10th of October 1870, our school has earned a well-deserved reputation for academic excellence. Ironside is a multicultural school, with approximately one third of students being born outside Australia. We are proud to have almost 50 nationalities represented within the school. At Ironside we are surrounded by a vast range of languages, cultures and beliefs. This supports our students to develop not only tolerance and understanding, but an open balanced world view.

Ironside State School offers outstanding co-curricular and extra-curricular programs in which students are able to regularly participate throughout the year. Representative Sport, The Arts and Music are just a few ways that Ironside State School contributes to the holistic and well-rounded development of each student.

An active school camping and excursion program, along with the long standing Japan Study Tour are other valued offerings at Ironside.

Ironside State School recognises that parents are their children's first teachers. Parents are encouraged to become active participants in their child's education. This can be as simple as reinforcing the values we encourage at school, reading to your child, offering to help in the classroom, tuckshop or uniform shop and of course, being a member of our P&C.

The Ironside P&C (Parents and Citizens) Association meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm in the Staff Room. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate within this friendly and hardworking association.

The Ironside School Council works strategically with the Principal to co-develop, support and maintain accountability around the School Strategic Plan. This group meets up to eight (8) times per year.

We would also encourage parents to maintain regular communication with our wonderful staff at Ironside State School. This enables us to discuss the progress of your child, and inform you of any upcoming activities they may be involved in. Additionally, you can let us know of any future events, or even let us know how your week is going. Our school website and weekly newsletters are a great source of information, and our school Facebook page keeps the school community up to date with latest news and events at the school. Weekly assemblies are always a time for community celebration.

Our School Strategic Plan is in it's first year in 2025 and over the next 4 years we will be focusing on implementing the Australian Curriculum Version 9, consistent outstanding highly effective pedagogy and collegial engagement.  This is exciting work in which our school aims to have consistent improved student learning outcomes, by challenging and supporting all learners and happy, highly-trained, confident staff.

Our school ethos is based on our STAR Values  -  Safe & Kind, Treasure Diversity, Respectful and Act with Integrity.  We work together to have not only our students but also our staff attend to these values.

I stand on the shoulders of those who have led our school before me and followed our school motto  -  Servabo Fidem  -  I will keep faith in humanity.  I will be honourable.  I will be trustworthy.  I will not give up faith.

I am so proud to be leading Ironside State School and look forward to welcoming you into our school.  Come and join the fun.

Yours sincerely,

Ms Angie Kelly'

Principal
