Ironside Library
The library is a warm and welcoming space for all students, staff and the wider school community, led by a dedicated Teacher-Librarian. It provides enriching reading experiences that foster growth and inspire a lifelong love of learning. Through engaging lessons, dynamic displays, and special events such as National Simultaneous Storytime, Book Week, and themed activities throughout the year, the library celebrates the joy of reading.
During library lessons, students are encouraged to explore a diverse range of materials, with guidance offered to help them make informed choices. Independence is nurtured by allowing students to select their own reading materials and take ownership of their borrowing experience.
Opening hours
The library is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm (extended to 3:30pm on Mondays and Thursdays).
Before school students may read or borrow books. Parents are welcome to read with their child before school.
The library is accessible by classes throughout the day for borrowing and library lessons. It is open for students during play breaks for reading, borrowing and quiet activities.
Borrowing guidelines
Prep to Year 2: Up to 3 books for 1 week
Year 3 to Year 6: Up to 4 books for 2 weeks
Library bags
Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students require a waterproof library bag to borrow from our library.
For students in Years 3 to 6, a library bag is encouraged (though not compulsory) as part of caring for our library books and helping keep them in great condition for everyone to enjoy.
Resources
The library provides and promotes access to a diverse range of resources to support the educational, creative, and recreational needs of both students and staff. Our collection is carefully curated to enhance and enrich the curriculum, foster critical thinking and inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning.
SORA digital eBook library
Students in Years 5 and 6 are provided access to the SORA eBook library, where they can read eBooks and listen to audiobooks at school or home.
To access, students can visit soraapp.com and log in with their school credentials.
Book Fair
Our school hosts 1–2 book fairs per year. Proceeds from these sales directly support the purchase of new resources for the library.
Book Week
In Term 3, we celebrate our annual Book Week! This special event is part of a nationwide tradition where schools and libraries across Australia come together to honour books and the talented Australian authors and illustrators who create them.
At Ironside State School, during Term 3 classes explore the Children's Book Council of Australia's shortlisted titles. To make the week even more exciting, students are invited to join in our Book Week Dress-Up Day, coming dressed as their favourite book character. Book Week dates will be communicated once confirmed.
