Welcome to Ironside State School.

I would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional and spiritual owners of our local lands, elders past, present and emerging; the Turrbal and Yagera People.

I am the newly appointed principal of Ironside State School and was well aware of the reputation and standing that Ironside State School has in the greater Brisbane area and even across the state of Queensland.

The school vision states that Ironside State School is driven towards – 'Outstanding education. Inspiring our students to make a difference locally and worldwide'. All staff and students work together to make this vision a reality.

Our aim is to provide the finest, most well-rounded and holistic education possible for our students.

Since the school's opening, on the 10th of October 1870, our school has earned a well-deserved reputation for academic excellence. Ironside is a multicultural school, with approximately one third of students being born outside Australia. We are proud to have over 50 nationalities represented within the school. At Ironside we are surrounded by a vast range of languages, cultures and beliefs. This supports our students to develop not only tolerance and understanding, but an open balanced world view.

The Australian Curriculum is what Ironside State School delivers through high quality teaching and learning. At Ironside we foster children's natural curiosity. Our teachers use both inquiry and explicit teaching methods, focusing students on active learning. Students are encouraged to investigate aspects of the Australian Curriculum, in order to apply their knowledge to real life situations. Our assessment tasks are aligned to the curriculum, teaching and learning so that teachers and students, along with parents, are aware of progress and achievement.

Ironside State School offers outstanding co-curricular and extra-curricular programs in which students are able to regularly participate throughout the year. Representative Sport, The Arts and Music are just a few ways that Ironside State School contributes to the holistic and well-rounded development of each student.

An active school camping and excursion program, along with the long -tanding Japan Study Tour are other valued offerings at Ironside.

Parents are the cornerstone of our school's community network. Led primarily though our two (2) key bodies; Ironside P&C Association and Ironside School Council, their tireless work realizes and supports many wider school achievements.

Volunteering in our Tuckshop and Uniform Shop and helping within classrooms, are just some examples of other ways parents can be involved in the life of Ironside State School.

The Ironside P&C (Parents and Citizens) Association meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm in the Staff Room. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate within this friendly and hardworking association.

The Ironside School Council works strategically with the Principal to co-develop, support and maintain accountability around the School Strategic Plan. This group meets up to eight (8) times per year.

Ironside State School is a high demand, high enrolment school. Our Enrolment Management Plan (EMP) has been in place since 2004. Enrolment at Ironside is for primary school age students who reside, and will continue to reside, within our catchment. Please consult our 'Enrolments' page for further detailed information.

I am proud to be leading Ironside State School and look forward to welcoming you into our school.

Yours sincerely,

Ms Angie Kelly
