Student diversity

​​Student diversity occurs every day within the classroom setting by the classroom teacher. Enrichment opportunities provide access to new and more challenging concepts or content, or alternatively provides for the revision of key concepts and skills.

In addition to our embedded classroom practices, we also offer a range of programs to enrich student learning.

At Ironside State School, we strive to ensure that all students are included and valued in the school community and that any obstacles to participation are identified and minimised. We believe that good first teaching is the best intervention. Learning support involves coordinated, targeted and systemic interventions for students who need additional support, in literacy and numeracy, beyond that which is provided in a high quality differentiated curriculum, to experience success at school.​

Our school ensures inclusive teaching practices which recognise and value the backgrounds and cultures of all students. Our EAL/D Program supports mainstream education and develops each student's English language skills through focussed support within the classroom as well as small group or individual settings. Students who have English as their second or additional language are supported by EAL/D teachers and Education Support Officers (ESOs) to:

• develop listening, speaking, reading, viewing and writing skills to access all learning areas
• enhance their abilities to effectively manage in a wide range of social and academic school contexts
  

For students of high academic ability, we draw on the latest research in the field of gifted and talented education to offer academic enrichment, extension and acceleration via differentiated and innovative educational programmes. These programmes support students of high ability to realise their potential and harness their many talents towards making a positive contribution to the global community.

Our gifted and talented co-ordinator assists teachers in identifying and providing support for these students and coordinates programs that best suits the needs of high capacity students.
