Leadership Selection Timeline (School Captains and House Captains)
The following timeline guides the nomination, application, interview and election process for major student leadership roles:
Term 4 (Year 5)
Week 2
- Leadership Camp at Tyalgum
(Attendance at camp is not a compulsory requirement to become a school leader.)
Weeks 3–4
- Q&A session with current school leaders, including House Captains
- Student Voice process, where students identify peers they recognise as demonstrating leadership qualities
- Students self-nominate for School Leader positions through an online form
- Teachers support students through the nomination process during class time
Week 5
- Self-nominations are cross-referenced with Student Voice data
- Students are notified if they have been shortlisted
- Shortlisted students attend a Student Council meeting
Week 6
- Shortlisted candidates deliver a 2-minute speech to the Year 5 cohort (parents are welcome to attend School Captain speeches)
- Year 4 and Year 5 students vote for leadership positions
Week 7
- Candidates with the highest student support, combined with Student Voice results, are invited to an interview with the Principal and Senior Years Deputy Principal
Week 8
- School Captain and House Captain positions are announced during a Senior Assembly in Term 4
Week 10
- Current student leaders officially hand over to future leaders
End of Term 4
Additional leadership positions are finalised at the end of Term 4, including:
- Student Councillors
- Wellbeing Warriors
- Library Captains
- Music Leaders
- Tech Crew
- Legends of the Lost
- Green Team
- Other student leadership opportunities as applicable
